One of the many old time local bands featured on KBMR’S Happy Hour program is Rocky and the Happy Valley Gang from Glen Ullin, North Dakota.

L.J. “Rocky” Rambousek owned and operated a nightclub in Glen Ullin known as Rocky’s Bar and Lounge. The band (early on) consisted of guitar player, Gene Kohler, Rocky’s brother-in-law, Clyde Staiger playing drums, and Rocky on the accordion. At least six albums were recorded including other talented musicians like the late Tom Frank and Tony Schaaf.  The band was very popular in the tri-state area entertaining with Czech and German waltzes and polkas. The music is still most requested on KBMR’s Happy Hour program. Listeners around the state like to relate with Tony Schaaf’s good old-time German melodies.
