MINOT, N.D. (AP) _ North Dakota Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp says President Obama's administration hasn't been supportive enough of finding ways to burn coal with less pollution.
Heitkamp says coal power must be a key part of any national energy policy, and cheap energy is important to any economic recovery.
Heitkamp spoke Thursday night to about 50 people at a ``town hall'' meeting at Minot's public library.
Coal mining and electric power production is a major industry in North Dakota. Heitkamp serves on the board of a synthetic fuels company that converts coal into gas.
Heitkamp says the Obama administration ``promised that they would be on the side of clean coal technologies, and yet everything in their policies have been very anti-coal. I think that's shortsighted.''
