BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ Law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in North Dakota were remembered during a ceremony at the Capitol.
The North Dakota Peace Officer Memorial Service was held Wednesday afternoon on the state Capitol grounds in Bismarck. The ceremony honored 61 officers.
They include Bismarck Police Sergeant Steve Kenner and Burleigh County Sheriff's Deputy Bryan Sleeper, both of whom died last year.
Kenner was shot July 8th while responding to a domestic disturbance. Sleeper suffered a heart attack at the scene of an arrest on September 28th.
This year's state memorial service was a week early because family and friends of Kenner and Sleeper will be in Washington, D.C., next week for the National Peace Officers Memorial Service.
