The commander of the North Dakota National
Guard's 81st Civil Support Team is retiring.
Lt. Col. Larry Shireley, of Bismarck, is stepping
down after more than 12 years of service with the unit. He will be
replaced by Lt. Col. Mark Quire, of Bismarck.
Shireley was honored during a retirement ceremony Monday at the
Guard's headquarters in Bismarck. He received the North Dakota
Legion of Merit for 26 years of military service.
The team was formed in 1999 as a part-time unit. Shireley was
selected in 2000 to be the first commander of the group, which
expanded to 22 full-time soldiers and airmen.
