Bond has been set for a North Dakota man
charged with manslaughter and drunken driving after two young
brothers from Texas died when authorities say he lost control of
his speeding pickup truck and drove over their tent at a
campground.
Northeast District Court Judge Michael Sturdevant set bond
Tuesday for 30-year-old Juan Acosta, of Newburg, at $250,000.
Acosta told the judge that he would be requesting a
court-appointed attorney.
Acosta also is charged with reckless endangerment and
unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Acosta was arrested after the crash early Sunday morning. The
crash killed 5-year-old Alaries Ruiz and his 9-year-old brother,
Cyris Ruiz. Their 28-year-old father, Juan Ruiz, suffered serious
but not life-threatening injuries. The boys' friend, 9-year-old
Anthony Tabarez Jr., of Newburg, has minor injuries.
