FARGO, N.D. (AP) _ Victim specialists who handle child abuse cases on American Indian reservations say cultural differences put a premium on teamwork.
Experts at a conference on family violence told attendees in Fargo Wednesday that certain challenges involved with prosecuting cases in Indian country should not interfere with rights of the victims.
Joan Halvorson, an Indian country victim specialist with the FBI, says networking among agencies can help with such problems as finding addresses where a victim lives or figuring out who has legal custody of the child.
Says Halvorson, ``It takes a lot of people to be able to make this work.''
The conference, which wraps up Thursday, is aimed toward police, social workers, prosecutors, counselors and community leaders from North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.
