North Dakota Democratic U.S. Senate
candidate Heidi Heitkamp says a political ad's claim that she spent
taxpayer money on private airplanes is ``completely false.''
Heitkamp on Thursday said she's asked television stations to
stop broadcasting the ad.
It was produced by Crossroads GPS, an organization that supports
Republicans. It says Heitkamp, when she was North Dakota's attorney
general, ``spent taxpayer dollars on private planes.''
Heitkamp says the two planes were Department of Defense surplus
property, and they were provided for free to the attorney general's
office. One was flown on anti-drug missions. The other was used for
spare parts.
The ad started airing Wednesday and is scheduled to continue for
about a week. It's costing almost $200,000 to air.
