GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) _ The National Weather Service says an
early season storm dumped record amounts of snow in some areas of
North Dakota.
The Weather Service's Grand Forks office reported 3.5 inches of
snow with Thursday's storm. The previous record snowfall for that
date or earlier was 2 inches, which fell on Oct. 2, 1950.
The heaviest snow fell in Roseau County, where about a foot of
heavy, wet snow was reported by 3 p.m. Thursday. Pembina received
about 4 inches, while Lankin, Michigan and Mayville each received
more than 3 inches.
The 1950 storm produced 2 to 5 inches of snow across the region,
with localized higher amounts. The North Dakota town of Leeds
received 7 inches of snow that day.
