FARGO, N.D. (AP) _ Officials in Oxbow have compiled a list of 13
conditions that must be met before the town will accept a ring dike
around it to save it from being flooded by a planned Red River
diversion project around Fargo-Moorhead.
The Forum newspaper reports that one of the demands is that the
community's golf course be redesigned and constructed to ensure 18
holes are protected within a levee.
Cass County Administrator Keith Berndt says one demand that
might not sit well with the Corps of Engineers is that property
owners not willing to reside within a levee be given buyouts.
Separately, the corps on Thursday announced that the current
channel alignment for the $2 billion diversion will be west of the
existing Sheyenne River Diversion, rather than absorbing that
channel.
