GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) _ Health officials have confirmed more
tuberculosis cases in the Grand Forks area.
Eight cases have now been identified. They include six males and
two females who range in age from their 40s to younger than 10.
Officials last month confirmed three cases of TB in Grand Forks
County, in adult men. They said Friday that five cases have been
confirmed since then, including one in an elementary school
student.
City spokesman John Bernstrom says the child was pulled from
class and parents of other students were notified when the test
results came back on Tuesday. People who might have been exposed
will be screened by local public health officials.
TB is a potentially fatal infection that typically attacks the
lungs, though it also can affect the kidneys, spine and brain.
