BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ A North Dakota man accused of killing his mother and stealing her car has pleaded guilty to murder.
Forty-eight-year-old Dean Grenstiner pleaded guilty to the murder charge during a change of plea hearing Tuesday morning. Prosecutors will drop a theft charge related to Grenstiner stealing his mother's car as part of a plea agreement.
Authorities say Grenstiner was living with his mother, 83-year-old Ann Grenstiner, for several weeks before he beat her to death in her Bismarck home last March.
A preliminary autopsy report said the cause of death was multiple blows to the head. Grenstiner was arrested in Moorhead, Minn., the day after his mother's body was discovered.
Grenstiner faces up to life in prison for murder charge. He will be sentenced after a presentence investigation is completed.
