BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ Turkey growers have donated Thanksgiving birds to North Dakota shelters for abused women and the homeless.
North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring (GORE'-ing) took part in the Monday presentation at the Capitol.
The turkeys are going to the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House and the Abused Adult Resource Center in Bismarck.
The growers brought a live turkey to the ceremony. In 2006, then-Gov. John Hoeven tried to handle the bird, and it protested by flapping its wings and trying to take off.
