HOUSTON (AP) _ Texas-based oilfield services company Baker Hughes Incorporated says the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. fell this week by one to 1,799.

Baker Hughes said Friday that 1,381 were exploring for oil and 416 were searching for gas. Two were listed as miscellaneous. That's a 32 percent drop from Baker Hughes tally from a year ago of 2,019 rigs. North Dakota gained one rig in the weekly tally.

West Texas Intermediate crude priced at Oklahoma's Cushing pipeline hub closed the week up nearly one percent today, at $86.73 a barrel.
