BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ A California man has pleaded guilty to stealing a car with a 2-year-old child asleep in the backseat to head to a casino to gamble.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon announced Tuesday that 39-year-old Paul A. Bonilla, of Riverside, Calif., pleaded guilty to the charge of theft within Indian Country.
Prosecutors say Bonilla entered a car in a New Town restaurant parking lot without permission to drive to a local casino to gamble. In the backseat of the car was a 2-year-old child.
The child was found to be unharmed and Bonilla was arrested.
He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for March 25.
