BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ A 32-year-old man arrested after a standoff in New Town last week will continue to be held in custody pending a trial on an unrelated firearms charge.

Michael Jason Smith barricaded himself in a home in New Town on December 19th when law enforcement officers tried to arrest him on numerous charges, including narcotics charges in Colorado. He was taken into custody on December 20th when officials used a front-end loader to break into the home in western North Dakota.

Smith appeared in federal court Thursday on an unrelated charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Magistrate Judge Charles Miller ordered that Smith be held pending trial on the firearms charge.
