RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) _ Gusty winds, blowing snow and below freezing temperatures have blanketed western South Dakota this weekend.

Up to 6 inches of snow accumulated Friday in the Northern Black Hills.

Winter weather advisories remained in effect for most of western South Dakota on Saturday. In North Dakota, wind chill advisories were in effect for western North Dakota while a blizzard warning covered the northeastern portion of the state.

Many schools and events were cancelled Friday in both Dakotas. The Rapid City Journal reports that Mount Rushmore National Memorial closed at 11 a.m. Friday and opened two-hours later on Saturday morning.
