GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) _ The parents of two Texas boys killed when a pickup truck ran over their tent in a North Dakota campground last July have returned to North Dakota to lobby for tougher drunken driving laws.
Authorities say 5-year-old Alaries Ruiz and 9-year-old Cyris Ruiz were sleeping in their tent at the Lake Metigoshe (meht-uh-GOH'-shee) campround when a pickup with a drunken driver at the wheel went out of control, ran over their tent and crashed into a tree.
Thirty-one-year-old Juan Acosta, of Newburg, awaits an April trial on felony charges of manslaughter and reckless endangerment. His attorney declined comment.
The boys' parents, Juan Ruiz and Sandy Hernandez, say they plan to share their story with lawmakers at the Capitol. They want stiffer penalties for drunken drivers.
