BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ Rep. Scott Louser says residents of North Dakota should get a break from paying state income tax this year and next.
The Minot Republican told the House Finance and Tax Committee on Monday that it's an attempt to decrease the tax burden on the citizens of oil-rich North Dakota. The measure would apply to individuals, estates and trusts.
Budget analysts say North Dakota's coffers would take a more than $1 billion hit over the next two years if the bill becomes law. The proposal would reinstate the state income tax in 2015.
