NEW SALEM, N.D. (AP) _ A New Salem woman has pleaded not guilty to child abuse or neglect related to the broken arm of an infant.
36-year-old Kyann McLaughlin pleaded not guilty to the felony at the Morton County Courthouse on Tuesday. She also waived a preliminary hearing.
Authorities say McLaughlin broke the arm of a 7-month-old girl in December at her in-home day care. McLaughlin called the girl's mother and told her she thought the girl's shoulder was dislocated when McLaughlin picked her up after a diaper change. But doctors said the girl's arm was broken. They said the only explanation was that the arm was pulled forcefully and twisted.
McLaughlin's next court hearing is scheduled for March 18.
