BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple has asked the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for more disaster recovery assistance for Minot and Ward County.

In a news release, Dalrymple said he met with HUD officials Friday and ``impressed upon them the severity'' of 2011's flooding. He said the ``flood's magnitude'' hasn't yet been fully realized by the federal government.

Dalrymple plans to visit with HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan on Sunday to talk more about assistance needs.

Congress has approved $50.5 billion in supplemental disaster relief funding to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy and other natural disasters. The appropriation includes $16 billion in disaster recovery for events in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Flooding in 2011 forced about one-fourth of Minot's population to evacuate and damaged or destroyed about 4,000 homes.
