ND native finishes Iditarod in 31st place

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ North Dakota native Kelly Maixner has finished the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in Alaska in 31st place.

The Golva native who now lives in Alaska crossed the finish line in Nome just before 8 a.m. local time Thursday, with nine dogs left out of his original team of 16.

Maixner completed the 998-mile race in about 9 1/2 days.

Sixty-six teams started the race on March 2.
