WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) _ After three days of competition in the oil boom town of Williston, a Grand Forks woman has been crowned Miss North Dakota.
Laura Harmon was named winner of the competition Saturday after vying with 21 finalists from across the state. Harmon graduated from Red River High School in Grand Forks and studies environmental geography at the University of North Dakota.
Harmon's primary sponsored program is Energy Kids, which aims to teach children the value of sustainable living habits.
The Miss North Dakota scholarship pageant awarded $40,000 in scholarships. Harmon will go on to compete for Miss America.
Miss West Fargo Meagan McDougall was first runner-up, followed by second runner-up Miss State Capitol Jacky Arness.
